A native New Yorker, Douglas Navarra was introduced to ceramics in his early teens. In his more recent work, the artist starts with found paper documents and responds by adding his own marks, as “interventions” that set up a dialogue with the linear quality of the penmanship, original marginalia, and the stains and tears that have accumulated over the centuries.
